“Midlo Murawski” Loyalists Face Tough and Constant Loyalty Challenges Concerning Valuable Village Asset
With Midlo Murawski loyalist Mike Woike still holding the job title “Midlothian Village Clerk,” a changing of the deriere in the Mayor’s seat may not be enough to quickly ferret out a corrective action strategy to deal with the controversy surrounding the current condition of the Midlothian Municipal Code Book.
Running unencumbered and riding on the mystery-filled promotions of current Mayor Thomas J. Murawski, there was never any real doubt who would be stuck holding the bag…or the book in this case, but questions still remain on whether or not Woike will pick up where Stephens left off with failed attempt to secure grant money. There is no reason to believe another attempt at pursuit of grant money is unreasonable or even unwarranted, but it would become another waste of everyone’s time and money if the sales pitch stays the same and only a few keywords are altered here and there.
Also, let us not totally ignore the why’s and how Chicago polished up its image before pitching the 2016 Olympic Committee. Midlothian will need to polish up its Internet presence, of which Woike at least has indirect influence over the current inaccessibility to any true municipal code. Trustee-Elect Gillis once believed the entire building code is in digital format and being stored on a hard drive somewhere…but who is going to take it out for its first round of FOIA exercises…perhaps minus a citizen’s current need to file a formal FOIA request for such actions? Despite the thickness of the building codes, converting it to .pdf format should not take more than a few hours and there is an abundance of free software that will perform the conversion should the Village not own Adobe .pdf licensing
Will Woike step up and take charge of this complex codifying contanglement and if he does, what will be the reaction of the rest of Midlo Murawski loyalists? Will they come over to his side regardless of the different derierre in the Mayor chair or will they see him to be a traitor to tradition?
Although the meeting on the 13th holds promise for possible signals that things have already been changing for the better behind the scenes, the real pudding proof will be how the Board deals with some of these political mysteries being left behind, including the continued exploration into a plethora of citizen-generated complaints that have…until now?… gone entirely uninvestigated and rarely recorded outside of letters and phone calls to Village Hall.
All in all, the promise of truly entertaining political discourse is on the horizon for Midlothian and whether or not there are any surprises the day of the ceremony on the 13th, or even leading up to the event, will come down to how Midlo Murawski loyalists choose to deal with the reality their leader was fired and a one-time Midlo Murawski loyalist is now in charge.
That’s going to be the constant challenge for every member of the Board since the Ghost of Midlo Murawski will not only linger forever more in the history books of Midlothian, with outstanding mysteries surrounding especially these last days of Murawski’s tenure, political loyalty issues always hold promise of some form of fireworks. It will come down to who gets burned by any fallout, if any, and how such evidence is dealt with.
Midlo Murawski still plays Political Hide and Seek using dangerous stonewalling techniques and tactics that will linger for years to come. Stephens won the hearts of some (many?) voters with the promise of Ask and Ye Shall Be Rewarded. Woike still is charged with the responsibility of keeping the municipal code books in compliance with all local, state and federal rules and regulations. He can’t do it if Murawski loyalists ignore the severity of his challenge and refuse to pledge their support on a party-neutral issue.
This isn’t about Woike failing to decide what laws should and should not go into the book. This is a total failure of all components of the process of being given authority to generate these rules in the first place, let alone maintaining a Master Book of Rules, and ensuring copies are on file at all times and available for inspection. If there is any dispute with any of the laws themselves, that is to be taken up somewhere else rather than letting the literal brick building designated as Village Hall remain the literal stone wall built in the shape of a box containing people behaving in sometimes the oddest of ways. However, after having worked as a temporary employee for government, I never stray far from the knowledge that even government employees are human and maybe things are much more difficult than any of us imagined.
The next few weeks will be critical to Stephens, Kreis and Gillis in regards to their pledge of opening up government and although pursuit of corrective activites with a majority would be nice and it all depends on the primary player, which is Woike. If he doesn’t come to the table soon with a proposed solution and a willingness to get the job done, then Woike becomes the Sole Stonewaller of pursuit of compliance with Midlothian’s own Code of Law since Murawski will be gone in less than a week.
The question is whether or not he will leave behind the complete set of the last legislative acts of his administration for the rest of us to gaze upon with wonderment and contemplation or if he’s going to run for the hills as soon as he is released from his current responsibilities to the public.
And now is the moment to insert an entertainment industry standard ending to a beginning…”Stay tuned”!
